Scout Day Camp—August 9-14, 2012

by Grisha Bostanchyan

On August 9-14 in the result of cooperation of Spitak YMCA and Zurich 10 YMCA a scout day camp in 2 shifts was held in Spitak YMCA “Home for Future” Community Center. The camp was organized and implemented due to the joint team efforts of 14 Spitak and 7 Zurich leaders. Before the start of the camp Armenian and Swiss leaders ran different workshops to get prepared for the amp. Besides, our Swiss guests went sightseeing together with our leaders to different places in Armenia. This helped the leaders to get to know each other and learn more about each other’s culture.

This was the first day camp organized by Spitak YMCA ever. The first shift was held
on August 9-11 and the second shift— August 12-14. Spitak YMCA TenSing and Scout programs’ participants took part in the camp. The topic chosen for the camp was the Armenian epic—”David of Sasun”. All the actions developed in the frames of this story. The program was rich in different outdoor and indoor games, various workshops,
creative role-play performances, sports events, singing, dancing, training on ecology. The program suggested interesting pastime for the kids. They were divided into 4 groups and were competing with each other for different prizes which made the camp even more thrilling and challenging for them. At the end everybody left with prizes and with a lot of new things learned during these 3 days.

According to the feedback received from the parents and their kids everyone mentioned unanimously that they would like to participate in such a camp the following year as well.

Summercamp 2009

By Haykuhi Karapetyan

On August 9-19, 2009 Spitak YMCA organized its annual scout-adventurous camp in turn.  The camp was organized by the financial support of CEVI Zurich. The tent camp had 84 participants and leaders from Spitak YMCA, Vardenis YMCA (Armenia) and Telavi YMCA (Georgia).

The picturesque campsite chosen is situated at Lake Sevan which made both the scouting process and the rest more pleasant and interesting. The schedule was worked out in details and everything was done so as none of the participants or leaders was bored or left with nothing to do. With the help of Spitak YMCA scout group the participants and leaders from the other local YMCAs got a knowledge about scouting in general and practiced a lot during the camp itself. They could put up tents and build up as campsite, make maps and use them, prepared scout food, etc.

Besides that the participants had a chance to learn about the Armenian and Georgian culture, got to know each other and made good friends, tasted Armenian and Georgian food. A part of the program was devoted to the ecological problems of Lake Sevan as the campsite was on its shore and everyone tried to find some solutions to them.

The topic chosen for the camp was “The Mysterious Island”. The groups arranged had appeared on an island where there was a hidden treasure and their goal was to do their best to find it. There was one native resident on the island named “Rumpumpel” who gave them different tasks guiding them.
